News
--BBC: Mir Hossein Mousavi, one of Iranian opposition leaders, in a statement released on the eve of December 7 (Azar 16th), the Student Day in Iran, called the Iranian nation a great nation which “does not sit passively watching her votes being rigged.” Mousavi said, “A great nation does not tolerate a second-degree appointed election. A great nation expects the Guardian Council to convince her that there has been no election fraud, not to be presented a claim [of no election fraud] and made to recognize this claim against all the observations and documentations.” As the end of this statement, Mousavi has addressed his dissidents among Iran’s government and said, “Our brothers! If the heavy costs and massive operations have not been fruitful for you, maybe you have mistaken the battle field; you are fighting with shadows in streets while your riffles are falling in the field of people’s conscience. You may not withstand the universities on Dec 7, but what about Dec 8? What will you do later on Dec 9?” The complete text of this statement will be attached to the newsletter.

--BBC: The Islamic Association of Amir Kabir University in Tehran in a statement has announced that the doors of this university will be open to everyone on Dec 7 (Azar 16th), and has invited Mir Hossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karroubi, two dissident leaders to visit this university and participate in Student Day ceremonies.

--BBC: Islamic Iran Alumni Organization (Office for Consolidating Unity) in a separate statement while condemning recent encounters with activist students and creating the atmosphere of “fear” in universities, warned against “using violence” against students on the Student Day and wrote that such actions can have “non-calculated outcomes”.

--BBC: Condemning recent crackdown on student activists and generating an atmosphere of 'fear' in the universities, the recent statement of the Islamic Iran Alumni Association (Adwar-e-tahkim-e-vahdat) warns [the Regime] from 'practicing violence' against student protestors on Dec. 7 since such acts [of brutality] could have unpredictable consequences.

--Radiofarda: In a highly critical speech to a group of student activists in Mashhad, Akbar Hashemi-Rafsanjani [the former president and the Speaker of Expediency Council] criticized revolutionary guards and Basij for how they treated people in the post-election turmoils. "If people like us we can govern" said Rafsanjani "otherwise we should go. The government has all the money and resources to mobilize [its supporters] to the streets while the opposition comprises a group of [poorly-organized] university professors and students, workers, managers and engineers. It was an inappropriate decision to put Basij and revolutionary guards against people."

--BBC: Security forces and plainclothes arrested twenty one of 'mourning mothers' in their weekly gathering in Laleh Park Saturday afternoon.

--Radiofarda: In a speech to some artists in the House of Artists on Sunday, the former president Mohammad Khatami criticized the current political atmosphere in Iran saying: "Politics has always been against morality; ethics have always been sacrificed for scoring political points not only in dictatorships and authoritarian regimes, but also in democracies."

--Mowjcamp: In reaction to recent comments of the IRGC Commander of Tehran Province in which he had told that the revolutionary guards will present flowers to the [protesting] students throughout the country- especially in Tehran province-, the Organizing Committee of Student Green Movement released a statement welcoming those comments. This statement reads: "While we want to express our respect to the revolutionary guards who know themselves the supporters of people, we announce that the shoulders of students is open to embrace and welcome you. Green scarves and warm and friendly handshakes will be students' response to your flowers. We strongly believe that the majority of revolutionary guards are the sons of the nation and hence our brothers and they are [also] extremely dissatisfied and concerned about the current course. Dec 7 can be an excellent opportunity for the people and the revolutionary guards to reconcile."

--Mowjcamp: While loud chants of 'Allah-u-akbar' [God is the Greatest] could be heard in most neighborhoods in Tehran, many people chanted slogans such as 'Death to Dictators' expressing their sympathy and support for the Green Movement.

--In a letter addressed to Mohsen Makhmalbaf [the well-known Iranian filmmaker], Ayatollah Hossein Ali Montazeri's office thanked him for dedicating his recent 'Creation Freedom' Award to Ayatollah Montazeri.

In his Sunday video broadcast, Mohsen Sazegara mentioned the following points:
- Regarding the arrest of the 'mourning mothers' [on Saturday], some Iranian activists outside the country are trying to forge an international sympathy and support for those arrested mothers by propagating the news of their arrest.
- During Dec. 7 protests, if any revolutionary guard offers flowers to protesting students, his offer should be [warmly] accepted in order to send a signal that the revolutionary guards coming to the side of people are embracingly welcome.
- He also confirmed the news that in a recent meeting of 'Tehran Traffic Control Committee' Naqdi, the Commander of Basiji militia, shot a member of the committee in foot [out of anger and frustration] after that member had stated that the committee can do nothing if people decide to jam the traffic by using their cars to block the streets.

He also outlined the main objectives of Dec. 7 rallies as follows:
- Simultaneous presence in [different] protests to devastate the mobility of coup forces (Monday evening).
- Presence of ordinary people either on foot or in their cars around university campuses or within downtown.
- Presence of middle school and high school students alongside university students.
- Inviting armed forces to join people.
- Avoiding any types of violence and beating.
- Practicing for political actions of the first ten days of Muharram (scattered while organized).
